Surrey County Council bears responsibility for repairs to roads in our area which, like all in Surrey, are in a generally poor state. Residents can help improve the situation by reporting significant potholes (see below) to Surrey's highways department. For residents with web access and an e-mail address, the best way to do this is via the council's web site. The benefit is that written proof of the report, with a unique reference number, is automatically sent back to you.
Go to Surrey's pothole report page and follow the instructions.
Try to provide dimensions of the hole (depth and surface area) and a precise indication of the location, for example a house number, junction with another named road or other easily identifiable landmark.
Surrey's budget for road repair and refurbishment is inadequate so it is important to limit reports to potholes that really matter. These are likely to be more than 100 mm (4 inches) deep. It may take up to 28 days to repair a significant hole unless it poses a very immediate danger.
Other road problems, such as street lamps burning wastefully in the daytime, can also be reported on-line or by phone.
Forum volunteer Tony Kirton has dedicated much effort to improving the way road defects are reported to Surrey County Council. He regularly walks roads in the area and checks for faults. By brokering a deal with Ian Fowler, Surrey's Community Highways Officer for Godalming and Haslemere, he has ensured that reports are made systematically road by road and the outcome recorded.

Waverley Borough Council is responsible for waste collection, street and pavement cleaning. This includes situations where Surrey County Council's road markings have been obscured by debris. Call 01483-523419.
It is important to give a detailed location — use the numbers on lamp posts, street addresses, details of junctions and anything that will help workmen find the problem — and also get the name of the person dealing with the report and any reference number.
Recent work on the Ground has enhanced the atmosphere there and this open space is increasingly enjoyed by residents and visitors. Nevertheless there are still occasional reports of vandalism and drunken behaviour. The public can help stamp out these problems by reporting all such incidents to the police on 999 in urgent cases or as soon as possible on 0845-125 2222 in less urgent instances. These reports contribute to the statistics relating to the Ground and help argue for the allocation of greater police resources to the area.
To report noise or illegal use of miniature motorbikes or other vehicles on the ground contact the Pollution Team in the Environmental Health Department, Waverley Borough Council on 01483-523435. If stereo systems in cars parked on the ground are causing a nuisance, note and report the registration mark of the vehicle — the Council will relay it to the Police.
For all other enquiries about the ground, including maintenance, rubbish removal and security, contact Waverley Borough Council on 01483-52333
For enquiries about the use of the clubhouse, contact Holloway Hill Sports Association.

Compostable garden waste — leaves, dead plants, prunings, shreddings, lawn cuttings and so on — can be taken to the amenity site at Witley during the working day seven days a week but this is often inconvenient. As a closer alternative Waverley Borough Council operates a Saturday morning (08:00-13:00) collection service from the contract car park next to the Wharf nursery in Woolsack Way, Godalming (opposite Homebase).
But have you considered composting your own garden waste? Busbridge's thin soil needs all the humus it can get. Composters are available through the WRAP scheme (Waste & Resources Action Programme)in partnership with Surrey County Council. Click here for details.
Waverley Borough Council are responsible for removal of graffiti. Call 01483 523333 and ask for the environment department to report any instances — be as precise as possible about the location. Waverley delegates this work to contractors so allow a little time — say ten working days — before you chase them up. If the graffiti is obscene, racist or intimidating it can be cleared or obscured quickly by an emergency team.
